beneath rough wraiths
of charcoal cloud
the endless river flows –
swiftly,
dark-silently
a huge fin cuts its surface
like the sail of
an ancient riverboat –
til downstream, it
veers toward the bank
thrashes, beaches itself –
a huge fish, now luminous, sparkling –
multicoloured,
panting on the grassbank –
becomes a
woman of rainbow colours
who shrugs herself,
gradually and deliciously rises
iridescent, potent-majestic
